Real Wedding at Treseren, Cornwall: Sophie & Roy’s Intimate Coastal Celebration
Sophie and Roy’s wedding was a quiet, deeply personal escape to the Cornish coast - a day shaped by simplicity, emotion and the kind of moments that unfold naturally when you strip everything back. Living in London, the couple were drawn to Cornwall for its sense of freedom and closeness to the sea.
With just their closest family present, their wedding felt deliberately unhurried and intimate. Rather than tradition or spectacle, the focus was on being together, embracing the place they were in, and allowing the day to unfold without pressure. What made this wedding feel unique from the very beginning was the couple’s complete trust in each other, in their chosen venue, and in the experience itself.
Even an unexpected burst of summer rain became part of the story, met with laughter, umbrellas and a shared sense of calm.
The venue - Treseren, Cornwall
Treseren proved to be an ideal match for Sophie and Roy’s intimate wedding vision. The Georgian house feels less like a traditional venue and more like a welcoming home, somewhere guests can truly settle.
The couple made full use of the property over their multi-night stay. Preparations took place in the light-filled honeymoon suite, the ceremony was held beneath Treseren’s iconic oak tree, and drinks and canapé moments flowed out onto the patio beneath the sail canopy. Dinner followed inside the ceremony room, while the drawing room hosted the cutting of the cake.
Treseren’s countryside setting paired beautifully with a coastal escape, allowing for a post-ceremony visit to Holywell Beach, just a short journey away, where the couple could enjoy quiet, playful moments together.
From a supplier perspective, Treseren’s team stood out for their exceptional organisation. Detailed scheduling, thoughtful styling, weather contingency plans and a hands-on support meant the day ran seamlessly, even when plans changed last minute.
The photography - Sofie Michelle Photography
Sofie Michelle’s approach is candid, relaxed and couple-led, with a strong focus on quietly observed moments rather than staged poses. Sophie and Roy were drawn to this natural style, valuing emotion and connection over formality.
Despite being a quieter couple, Sofie could see how comfortable they were to work with, particularly once away from their guests. Their favourite moments emerged naturally, especially on the beach, where the couple became playful and carefree without prompting.
One of the photographer’s favourite moments was the sudden appearance of umbrellas as rain swept in mid-ceremony. A reminder that the most memorable images often come from embracing, rather than resisting, the unexpected.
Sofie Michelle’s Photography’s Top Tips for Natural Wedding Photos:
For couples hoping for natural imagery, Sofie’s advice is simple: ‘be present, let go of expectations and trust that the moments will come - especially in locations like the Cornish coast, where movement, space and weather all add character to the imagery.’
the Ceremony
The couple chose a legal civil ceremony, held outdoors beneath Treseren’s oak tree. With only close family present, the ceremony became the emotional heart of the day.
One of the most moving personal elements was a reading delivered in Polish by Sophie’s mother, thoughtfully included alongside English translations so everyone could feel connected to the moment.
Live cello music, played by musician Cath, accompanied the ceremony and drinks reception, adding a soft, reflective quality that suited the intimate setting.
Sofie (Photographer) explains for couples planning a similar ceremony, the key advice is to do what feels right - whether that means keeping things simple or weaving in meaningful rituals. There’s no “correct” way to structure an intimate wedding.
The Fashion
Sophie wore a striking modern bridal look, choosing a cape-style top that felt effortlessly distinctive and perfectly suited to a contemporary coastal elopement. While the details of designers and accessories weren’t confirmed, the overall styling felt intentional and beautifully understated. Meaningful jewellery moments, including a quiet, emotional exchange with Sophie’s mother, added intimate layers to the morning preparations and made the getting-ready experience feel even more personal.
The groom perfectly complemented the day’s relaxed palette in a sage green suit, paired with a light grey bow tie that echoed the soft coastal tones surrounding them. A personal touch made it even more meaningful, with the words ‘Mitts & Mitts 17/7’ embroidered inside the left side of Roy’s jacket.
Altogether, the fashion felt unfussy yet full of meaning, reflecting both the laid-back atmosphere and the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Styling & details
The styling was intentionally minimal, allowing Treseren’s character to lead. Draping supplied by the venue softened the oak tree ceremony space, while floral arrangements by Emily of 3 Acre Blooms added texture without overwhelming the setting.
Tables were styled with Treseren’s in-house tableware, candles and linens, ensuring cohesion throughout the day. Flowers were re-used indoors for the wedding breakfast, enhancing the ceremony room without excess.
Small personal details including decorative mice featured near the cake, hinted at private meanings known only to the couple and their family, adding charm without explanation.
Food & Drink
Food was provided by Chef Fiona, whose menu celebrated fresh local seafood and bold, vibrant flavours. Canapés included oysters, sushi-inspired bites and dumplings, before guests were treated to a beautifully curated seafood feast featuring lobster salad and wild sea bass.
A single-tier semi-naked cake served as the wedding cake, cut in Treseren’s beautiful drawing room under the watchful eye of two deeply meaningful felt mice. Drinks were provided by Treseren’s Love Day Bar, with champagne and cocktails included as part of the intimate package.
With only a handful of guests, the dining experience felt effortlessly relaxed, wonderfully indulgent, and truly savoured by all.
