Small and beautiful - Discovering intimate wedding venues in Cornwall and Devon

Not every wedding needs a guest list of 150, sometimes the most memorable celebrations are the smaller ones.

Here in Cornwall and Devon, we're incredibly lucky to have a wonderful collection of wedding venues that lend themselves perfectly to something a little more intimate. From tucked-away country houses and beautiful coastal hideaways to creative spaces surrounded by gardens, there are some truly special places to discover.

We wanted to let you know that holding a smaller wedding certainly doesn't mean compromising on the experience. In fact, it can open the door to some rather lovely possibilities.

So, what makes an intimate wedding so special?

One of the biggest advantages of a smaller guest list is the freedom it gives you. There's more opportunity to spend meaningful time with your guests, create a dining experience that feels personal, choose a venue that's a little different and really focus on those details that make the celebration feel like you.

Perhaps it's a long-table dinner in a beautiful Cornish garden, a weekend of celebrations spent with your favourite people in a private Devon country house or an intimate ceremony overlooking the Southwest coastline. Whatever your vision, there's something wonderfully special about a celebration where everyone feels part of it.

We also love that smaller weddings can lend themselves to a more relaxed approach to the celebrations. Rather than everything revolving around one wedding day, you might choose to make a whole weekend of it, with time to enjoy a welcome dinner, leisurely breakfasts and a few extra special moments together. It's often these little in-between moments that couples remember just as fondly.

A few of our favourite intimate wedding venues in the Southwest

If you're considering a smaller celebration, we've picked out a few beautiful venues from our collection that we think are well worth exploring. Each offers something a little different, but they all have that special quality that makes an intimate wedding feel like something truly memorable.

Treseren, Nr Newquay, Cornwall

A beautiful former Mine Captain's residence on Cornwall's North Coast, Treseren is a particularly special choice for couples dreaming of a smaller country house wedding.

Hosting up to 22 guests, it's the kind of setting that feels wonderfully private and personal. We particularly love the idea of its three-night wedding experience, giving couples and their closest family and friends the opportunity to settle in, slow down and enjoy the celebrations beyond the wedding day itself. It’s also a short drive to the nearest beach!

If you're looking for an intimate wedding that feels more like a private house party with all the thoughtful touches of a beautifully hosted celebration, Treseren is certainly one to consider.

Weddings by the Harbour, Newquay, Cornwall

For couples who feel most at home by the sea, Weddings by the Harbour offers something rather special.

Set in a beautiful cliffside location overlooking Newquay Harbour, this coastal venue accommodates up to 50 guests alongside six stylish bedrooms. Operating daily as a restaurant means the venue can offer a bespoke dining experience, a menu filled with fresh, local ingredients and fish straight from the Harbour!

We love the idea of bringing everyone together for a relaxed seaside celebration, with the coastline providing such a beautiful backdrop. It's a lovely option for couples wanting something a little less traditional, without losing any of those special wedding-day details.

Antonia's Pearls, Charlestown

Set within the historic harbour village of Charlestown, Antonia's Pearls offers a wonderfully intimate coastal escape for couples planning a smaller celebration.

With exclusive use, luxury accommodation for your guests and beautiful harbour views, it feels much more like a private seaside retreat than a traditional wedding venue. With space for up to 14 guests, you will be spoilt for choice as each space has been thoughtfully designed. We’d like to draw your attention to there new addition, The Pearls, hidden in its own secret seaside garden. This seaside villa is particularly lovely for those dreaming of an exceptionally personal celebration with just their closest family and friends.

We love the thought of everyone staying together, enjoying the surroundings and making the most of such a special little corner of Cornwall.

Harbour Hotel Padstow, Cornwall

If you're looking for an intimate wedding venue but would still love to invite a slightly larger circle of family and friends, Harbour Hotel Padstow is a lovely one to have on your radar.

One of the largest venues in our Intimate collection, it can welcome up to 60 guests, offering a beautiful balance between a smaller, more personal celebration and all the space you need to bring everyone together. Perched above Padstow's picturesque harbour, with sweeping views across the Camel Estuary, it's a wonderful setting for a coastal wedding.

And one of the things we particularly love is how much thought has gone into making the planning process as straightforward as possible. Their wedding packages have been carefully put together to take care of so many of the details, from your welcome drinks and three-course wedding breakfast to wine, evening food, linen and even your wedding night accommodation. They really have thought of everything!

You'll benefit from so much being taken care of for you, with an experienced wedding team on hand to guide you through the process and ensure everything runs smoothly. It means you can relax, enjoy the experience and spend more time looking forward to celebrating with your favourite people.

Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, Cornwall

For something a little different, Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens is a truly inspiring setting for an intimate wedding or elopement. Overlooking St Michael's Mount, the gardens bring together dramatic landscapes, exotic planting and contemporary sculpture to create a backdrop that's quite unlike anywhere else.

Specialising in smaller weddings and elopements, we love that couples can enjoy the gardens as part of their celebration. There's so much to discover throughout the grounds, offering endless possibilities for beautiful photographs. Don’t forget to include the wonderfully unique James Turrell Skyspace!

If you're a couple who would rather exchange vows surrounded by nature and creativity than within a traditional wedding setting, this is certainly one to put on your list.

Camel Studio, Washaway, Cornwall

Set in the beautiful Camel Valley, Camel Studio is a charming barn venue with lovely gardens and views across the surrounding countryside.

With exclusive use for two nights, a light-filled barn and plenty of character, it's a wonderful setting for couples wanting to bring their favourite people together and make a weekend of their wedding.

One of the things we particularly love about Camel Studio is the variety of charming spaces to enjoy before and after the festivities. There's room to slow down, spend quality time with your guests and make the most of those moments that can sometimes get lost in a busy wedding-day schedule.

It's a lovely example of how a smaller wedding can feel every bit as special as a much larger celebration.

Finding your perfect intimate wedding venue

Whether you're searching for intimate wedding venues in Cornwall, exploring intimate wedding venues in Devon or looking a little further afield across the South West, we'd always encourage you to think about how you want your wedding to feel, rather than simply starting with a guest number.

And remember, a smaller guest list doesn't mean a smaller celebration. It simply gives you the opportunity to do things a little differently, putting the people, experiences and details that matter most at the heart of it all.

Small guest lists, beautiful settings and celebrations that feel entirely your own. What's not to love?

If you're beginning your search, we'd love you to explore our collection of intimate wedding venues across Cornwall and Devon. We've brought together some wonderful places to help you find a setting that feels just right for your celebration.
